I've Reached My Limit For Drama Today

Just when I think I will never again have a blog worthy story to share with you, one of the kids or animals come through for me.

This afternoon I was cleaning my kitchen and had just cleared and swept the floor when the phone rang. It did that annoying three ring thing that tells me it's a telemarketer, so I kept going.

Seriously...if I'm doing housework I cannot afford to be interrupted because who knows when I'll get started again.

I started to wash the floor when the phone rang again. This time it was Ian calling from the office. He said he was on the other line with the alarm company and that our house alarm was going off.

Um... no it wasn't. All was quiet on the home front. Well, as quiet as things can be with a house full of children and pets.

Yes, they insisted, the alarm is sounding and no one is answering the phone.

Oops. I guess it wasn't a telemarketer calling after all.

Well it's not, I repeated. Then Ian realized it was the silent panic alarm thingy we keep upstairs in case of emergency. He asked if Jordan could have pushed it.

Sigh. Yes, of course she could have and more than likely did.

I didn't think that thing even worked.

He explained to the alarm company that our 2 year old likely set it off. They informed him that the police had been dispatched and were enroute, and could not call them back.

Super!

I may or may not have mentioned my obsession with police response times. While I should be concerned for the welfare of the party that had to call the police, in reality I am much more concerned with how long it took for them to get there.

Let me tell you. It didn't take long for them to arrive. I made it to the front door in time to see two cruisers come squealing in and stop in front of my house.

My neighbours certainly got an eyeful as they darted from their cars, hands on their weapons, shouting "Ma'am! Are you alright!"

It was like an episode of COPS.

I felt all sweaty.

I think I was old enough to be their mothers.

I have had a lot of drama today already. This was like the icing on the cake.

They kept trying to look past me into the house. I guess to see if someone was in there with me.

After asking for my identification to prove I lived here, they wrote down my information and started to leave.

One officer turned around on my lawn, lowered his sunglasses all David Caruso style and asked me one last time...

"Ma'am... are you sure you're ok?"

I felt like an ass.

And that is just a piece of the drama I had to endure today.

The End.

    Oh. My. Goodness!
I think I would have been near or in tears by the time they showed up (which sounded pretty quick). I guess the bright side is, at least you know the silent alarm does actually work and they will arrive pretty quickly if you need it. Take a bubble bath while your hubby is out blowing bubbles! (just saw your tweet about that) =D

  2. I can't help it, Kate. I am totally laughing right now. I can picutre David Coruso - we laugh at him weekly with the sunglasses! Tomorrow will be less crazy.

  3. Oh gosh. Reading this gave me a flashback to last year when Collin called the cops. They actually made us let them in the house to prove everything was okay! At least they're doing their jobs... I guess....

  9. Hahaha oh no!! That's some funny stuff right there though!

We had the same thing happen a couple years ago, cops showed up and said someone had called the police from our house. Toddler was asleep we were watching a movie. ?? I think he thought I was being abused and was lying that I didn't call. Fun times. However I'm pretty sure the call had been placed hours ago, that's our town for ya...you would not approve! ;)

  10. Hey, never a dull moment! My baby girl called 9-1-1 a few months ago, and the police sent someone out just to check and make sure it was okay even though I explained what happened.

And then a few months after that, a cop pulled me over for speeding (it was dark and he was on my bumper, so I started going really fast not knowing he was a cop . . Just thinking he was a regular psycho). Anyway, it was the same guy who had come to my house for the 9-1-1 call. Grin. (And no ticket once I told him he was freaking me out. He actually apologized and let me go. My lucky night!)

  12. The good thing is that you know the panic alarm works, the alarm company is on their toes and the police come at a pretty good speed.

Now here's the question...I wonder if my brother was working that day??

  14. It's funny looking back in it, right?

I'm actually surprised they didn't insist on coming in the house to check things out for real, you could've been sent out to get rid of them under threat to harm a child or something, and been a really good actor...

Well, at least now you know that button works! :-)

I am glad that the officers arrived quickly! I totally get you on that!
