5QF ~ Apr 26

I'm so glad it's Friday. It was a very heavy week 'round these parts, so I'm really looking forward to recharging with my family for the next two days.

I had a new temp start today. She wore a lovely purple sweater that matched her hair. I hope she works out. We've had so many temps come and go over the last year and it's been frustrating. Someday I will tell you allll about it.

I had a girls night out this week with two friends from church. We talked and laughed for over 3 hours!

My course will be over at the end of May, with the graduation ceremony in early June. Some day I will tell you allll about that too.

Ok. So since it's Friday, I'm going to do Mama M's Five Question Friday blog thingamaroo.

Ready?

Let's go.

~*~ ~*~ ~*~ ~*~ ~*~

1. Who drives when your family is together, you or your spouse?
99% of the time Ian does. I don't like driving in the dark, rain, snow, highway or traffic. Also, Ian does these weird jerky movements when I'm braking like he thinks I'm going to bang into the guy next to me or something. And I think he presses both feet on the floor like he has some invisible brakes going on down there. I can't take it. So, he drives and I look at the scenery.

2. Are you an introvert or extrovert?
My understanding of an introvert is someone who is recharged by being alone, while an extrovert is recharged by being with others.

So, assuming I'm not too way off base with my understanding, I am an introvert. I find being around other people to be exhausting sometimes, so I require a bit of quiet time to myself every day so my head doesn't pop off. I might read or pray or colour.. it doesn't matter. Just as long as I am alone it's all good.

3. Are you married to an introvert or extrovert?
Ian is an extrovert for sure. He loves being around other people and is very social. He'd have the entire world over every single night if he could. He loves people, he craves fellowship and fun with others.

I imagine it is very hard for an extrovert to live with an introvert.

4. What's your favorite type of social media?
It's a tie between Facebook and Twitter. I love them both. But I love Instagram and Snap Chat too.

I love me some social media.

5. What's your favorite way to "recharge"?

Probably by colouring. I have my own stash of colouring books and crayons and I can just zone out.

5QF ~ Mar 22

Oh sweet mercy...what a week!

Monday night I met up with my friend Louise to visit. Tuesday was a meeting at the church. Wednesday was my course. I've been staying late at the office each night trying to get ahead. Crazy. I was thankful for a quiet evening at home with my family last night.

I belong to a wonderful group of blogging friends and they have been blessing me in a huge way lately. I've been getting care packages filled with gifts and M&Ms in the mail recently and it just warms my heart. I'm hoping to do a blog post on that soon because it deserves more than one or two lines in this post! I have pictures too :-)

I just got some GREAT news last night. I woman I worked with when I was pregnant with Matthew has bought a house about 5 minutes from mine so we'll get to actually see each other for coffee and playdates. She has a daughter close to Jordan's age and a baby. So excited.

I'm hoping to visit with my mama tomorrow and then go out on a dinner date with my Ian in the evening. Sunday is Palm Sunday and then next week... whoa! My girls' birthdays! Julie turns 12 on Wednesday and Jordan turns 5 on Friday.

Life is full these days, that''s for sure.

Enough chit chat Kate!

It's time for Mama M's Five Question Friday blog meme!

1. What advice would you give a newly married couple?

Enjoy being just the two of you before adding to your family. Do things, go places, learn.

Learn to be forgiving with one another. You will have many, many, opportunities to practice.

Never speak poorly about your spouse to anyone. Ever. Once you do, you've opened the door for others to do it as well. Be their biggest cheerleader and their safe place.

Start and finish every day with I love you.

Hug often.

2. Who does more laundry around your house?

Ian does. But I do my own.

3. What items, if any, do you prefer to buy organic or make yourself?

I never buy organic anything. Ever.

4. What book/TV series would you recommend for a friend on bedrest?

Fifty Shades of Grey. HA.

The Left Behind series.

Or watch Lost from beginning to end, or Flashpoint.

5. So, they say it's Spring now...what does your "spring" look like at this very moment?

We had a blizzard today. I seriously want to punch Mother Nature in the face.

Ok! I'm off! Have a super day and a super weekend!

5QF ~ Jan 11

Oooh boy.

I have some weird eye infection thing going on in my eye, so I had to take out my contacts and I'm wearing my glasses instead. It's an old prescription and it's making me feel a little off kilter.

Someone once told me my glasses looked like they belong to Mrs. Beasley.

Anyway.

I vlogged again because I'm lazy.

Quite possibly my worst vlog ever.

And the longest.

Here we go.

Have a great weekend.

5QF ~ Jan 3

Happy Friday!

It's a vlog-type day today. Turns out there are a few bloggers that are doing vlogs today.

Yay!

Too many people are worried about how they look or sound or whatever, but there's no need. Just have fun with it!

I love vlogs. And here's mine.

Could I look worse?

Probably. Do I care? Nope.

WAIT!

After I watched the video I realized I skipped question 4 which is "what food must be in your house at all times?"

That, my friends, is milk. We go through milk like nobody's business. About a 4L bag every day and a half. I seldom drink milk so don't blame me. If milk is not considered a food, then I would say Pop Tarts. The natives get angry when there's no Pop Tarts.

Alright, I'm all caught up. Carry on.

Have a great weekend!

5QF ~ December 28, 2012

Oh my word.

I was too lazy to blog my Five Question Friday so I decided to vlog it instead.

Sweet mercy... what an effort! First I had to try to remember my youtube password, then I had to create a new account because I couldn't find my password, upload it, etc.... it's been a two day journey.

But... here it is. In all it's awfulness.

My face looks so fat.

Ugh.

Meh.

After the lengths I went to just to get this video on this blog... I no longer care about my fat face!

So, without further ado... here is my first vlog courtesy of my ipad.

Have a great weekend, peeps.

November 16 ~ 5QF

I am looking forward to a weekend of doing nothing. Sleeping in, lazing about, napping in the afternoon....

My reality will be more like helping to organize the garage, rearranging some furniture to make room for our Christmas tree, laundry, and church.

But holding out hope for a nap...

This week my mom and I went out for dinner to celebrate Diwali as we do each year. Of course, we aren't celebrating Diwali as much as we're just enjoying a reason to go out for dinner together.

Wednesday was the Open House at the high school Sam is desperately wanting to attend. I have my course every Wednesday, so my mom came to watch Julie and the little ones, while  Ian and Sam headed over to the school. Only 22 students are accepted into the media program, and Sam is longing to be one of them.

I can't believe that we're discussing high schools already. Wasn't he a baby just last week...?

Ok. I can't sit here chatting you up any longer - I need to get my butt to work!

Welcome to Five Question Friday!!

As I mentioned yesterday, I am hosting this week's Five Question Friday for Mama M at My Little Life, while she and her darling daughter Belle enjoy themselves at Disney World.

Rules for 5QF:  Copy and paste the following questions to your blog post, LINK UP with the linky thinky at the bottom of this post! Mama M would love to link to you in a future 5QF, so head on over to her community or watch for her Thursday afternoon shout outs for questions on Twitter and offer up your best question suggestions! Remember to @5crookedhalos her and use hashtag #5QF if you go the Twitter route!)

Special thanks to this week's contributors: MrsKarenC (@mrs_karenC) at Dinosaur Superhero Mommy, Maranda (@MarandaLamping) at Maranda Lamping, Brooke (@HallBro) who doesn't have a blog it seems. (Get on that, Brooke!), Kristina (@Kristinascackle) at Kristina's Cackles and Ashley (@ashleywbeck) at The Court of Three Sisters.

Lovely women.

Make sure you check them out!

On to the questions!

1} What snack/drinks do you eat at the movies?

I like popcorn or plain M&Ms. I'll bring my own diet pepsi with me because I can't stand the concession stand prices. I have this one friend that CANNOT STAND it when I pop the tab on my can. She thinks I'm the cheapest person ever.

2} What's one food you refuse to ever try?

Oysters. They sound gross and they look gross and I'm just betting they taste gross too.

3} What's your favourite nail polish color?

I love Expresso by Sally Hansen. I've recently discovered Essie and the rainbow of beautiful colours, but I haven't chosen a favourite Essie yet. I have been really enjoying the darker colours but Ian can't stand them. I'm wearing something orangey-pinky and he likes that.

Next week it's grey... prepare yourself Ian.

4} What is your favourite Thanksgiving tradition?

We just had our Thanksgiving last month and I'm jealous that the US is about to have theirs. We don't have any particular traditions. Just a beautifully cooked bird and precious time around the table together.

5} What are your least favorite words in the English language?

My #1 least favourite word is "share". I have serious sharing issues. I also don't like "meal" or "slacks".

That's a wrap for this week! Don't forget to link up below!

Hope you all have a fantastic weekend!

5QF ~ October 26

So much for blogging more this week.

I thought about it. I've been thinking a lot about this blog lately. I love it, and I love that it has documented so much of my life but I just don't have the time for it anymore.  Bless those of you that still check in regularly.

The course I'm taking through my church is called Freedom Session and it's turning me inside out. I'm pulling out all the painful things in my life that I've stuffed down over the years and it feels brutal. My emotions are so raw and I feel so out of control. The course runs from Sept - June with a graduation at the end. So far I've only committed to December but I want to see this through. There's so much in my life that I need to let go of so I can be free to be who God created me to be. I told Ian tonight that this is either going to end up being a huge, colossal disaster, or something absolutely incredible.

On the plus side, I love being a part of a small group again. It feels really good. I'm trying to get over my intense dislike and inability to do small talk but it's hard. I'm very shy and never know what to say. Tomorrow night I'm going to a Ladies Game Night at the church so I'll have to prepare a few topics for this small talk business so I don't look like a moron.

In other news, we finally got our family photos done last Sunday! Everyone was in great spirits and we headed off to the conservation area to hang out for a couple of hours and take some pictures. Tons of people had the same idea. Afterwards we went to Downey's Farm to buy our pumpkins and a couple of pies. It was an absolutely perfect day and I felt so happy and recharged heading into another busy week.

The children are crazy excited for Halloween next week. Sam is going to go out with his friends like he did last year. This is probably his last year of trick or treating. Julie wants to go out with her friends (and a parent). I will take Jordan out and Ian will stay at the house and give out candy. I might take Matthew to a few houses until he gets tired.

Speaking of Matthew, he does the cutest thing now. The last thing I do before leaving for work each morning is to kiss and hug each of the children before heading out the door. Matthew hurries over and lifts his face to get his kiss too. This morning his face was lifted, eyes were closed and he had this huge smile on his face. That image kept me going all day.

Ok, time for Mama M's Five Question Friday blog meme!

1. Who wakes up in the morning with the kids, you or hubby?

I'm up before everyone else during the week, then Ian gets up and starts waking the kids to get ready for school. Some days, if time allows, I help out with this. On the weekends it's usually Ian.

Bless him.

2. Do you watch the World Series even if your team isn't in it?

Is this hockey we're talking about?

Just kidding. I know it's baseball.

I have zero interest in baseball, so no.

3. Wh
at is the best compliment you have ever received?

The best ones were/are when someone tells me I'm a great mom, or I have a lovely family. That always makes me feel proud.

Recently my manager told me I was among the best she's ever worked with.

:-)

4. Do/did you dress up to take your kids trick or treating?

I usually do. I have this inflated pumpkin costume I wear every year, but this year I might skip it. The fan that keeps it inflated blows cold air up my neck and gives me a chill the entire time I'm outside and I usually get sniffly for a few days afterwards.

Not to mention I look like a total ass walking around.

Ian always dresses up. Sam and Julie used to tell me I wasn't allowed to go out trick or treating with them unless I dressed up too.

5. Do you have a favourite Bible verse? What is it and why?

I have a few. They're the ones that have carried me over the last year, and continue to carry me as I work through Freedom Session.

I lift my eyes up to the hills - where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, the maker of heaven and earth.
~ Psalm 121:1-2

The Lord will fight for you, you need only to be still.
~ Exodus 14:14

Cast your cares on the Lord and He will sustain you. He will never let the righteous fall.
~ Psalm 55:22

For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.
~ Jeremiah 29:11-13

Do not be afraid, for I am with you.
~ Isaiah 43:5

Do not fear, for I have redeemed you;
I have summoned you by name; you are mine.
When you pass through the waters,
I will be with you;
and when you pass through the rivers,
they will not sweep over you.
When you walk through the fire,
you will not be burned.

~ Isaiah 43:1-2

5QF ~ Oct 5

I can hardly believe we are now into October. Unreal. Where has this year gone??

I love this time of year. I was in the littles' bedroom this morning when I was hit with a wave of sadness as I thought about our old house. My kitchen had these huge windows and I would watch the sun set over the ravine across the street as I washed the dinner dishes. I never grew tired of that gorgeous view. It was beautiful in the fall. I miss many things about our old home, but that view is at the top of my list.

I had just picked up Matthew when I looked up and saw the tree outside the window, its leaves a bright yellow. When I was pulling out of the driveway I looked up at the tree once more and only the leaves facing our house had turned colour. The rest were normal. I felt as though God gave me a new view to look at to take my sadness away. In fact, every tree I passed on my way to work today was a bit brighter than I noticed a couple of days before.

Julie's dance class went well this week. I brought Jordan and Matthew with me to give Ian a bit of quiet time at home. I discovered that if I took Jordan outside to play in the park I could spy on Julie's class. They did 30 minutes of warm-up and 15 minutes of actual dance instruction. I was a little annoyed.

Wednesday night was my course at the church. I grabbed a sandwich on my way home and ate it before heading off to the church. My stomach felt weird as I was leaving and I figured I ate too fast. I felt worse as the evening wore on, but I thought that was just because I was feeling emotional about the topic. By the time I got home I was a mess. I had chills and was shaking all over. Ian put about five blankets on me but I couldn't get warm. I ended up missing work on Thursday which I hated doing. I spent the entire day in bed, sleeping off whatever bug I had. I had to be in the office today because the manager was on a vacation day but I was longing for the end of the day and to be home. Normally I take the little ones out on Friday nights but tonight we just hung out at home. I love those Lifetime movies of the week. We don't get them here in Canada and we don't get Hallmark movies either. Bummer. But tonight I was so desperate to watch one that I watched it in increments on YouTube. What can I say.

Hopefully I'll feel back to my usual self this weekend.

BECAUSE!!

It's Thanksgiving weekend!! I'm cooking a turkey on Sunday and it's going to be awesome. Ian bought the turkey last night and I've been teasing him by saying it's the size of a fat baby. He bought a nicer one than I was going to buy. I figured I'd get some no-name brand utility turkey.

Ian and I are going on a date tomorrow afternoon to see a movie. So excited. Monday I'm going to visit with my lovely Mama. I'm happy to spend the next few days with all the people I love.

Ok. Enough chit chat - I need to get to bed.

But first... it's Mama M's Five Question Friday blog hop time!

1. What album/cd/download are you embarrassed to admit you have?

Nothing. I have awesome taste in music no matter what Ian says.

2. What's the one thing your spouse does better than you?

Only one, huh? He's better at choosing to see the good in people than I am.

(And he's more patient and makes a better cup of tea than I ever will)

3. When do you start buying Halloween Candy?

The week before the 31st I guess. I try not to buy it too early because I don't need the temptation.

4. Family closets - yay or nay?

That's a big fat NAY.

First of all, who has a whole extra room they can dedicate to becoming a closet to hold the whole family's clothes? And even if you did...really? Is it that hard to deliver a basket of clothing to a person's room and then put it away? Rooms generally have closets in them, and if they don't - like my Sam - then you get an extra dresser or a hook for the door or something.

I'll admit it, I roll my eyes at the whole family closet concept. I think it's lazy and it's a waste of space.

5. Which home/cleaning chore do you hate the most? Why?

I hate sweeping and washing the floors. It's a chore that needs to be done everyday with kids and a dog and it's annoying. And then people wear their shoes in the house which is disrespectful on top of disrespectful.

Short answer: Floors

Ok that's it. I'm going to bed!

5QF ~ September 23

Oh Sunday evening... why did you have to sneak up on me like this??

Pox on you.

This past week seemed to fly by. Julie started her dance class on Tuesday. She was a little bummed they didn't do more dancing but it was the first night. She's hopeful it will go better this week. I'm looking forward to driving her every week because that means 45 glorious minutes of alone time. Yee haw!

I met my friend Cindy's new baby. He wasn't even a week old yet! So soft and squishy and made these adorable little creaky noises. It's been awhile since I've held a newborn so I was a little nervous. And the best part? No baby fever!!

GO KATE!

Ian had the junior high youth leaders over on Thursday for a game night, and I took the children to the open house at the school to meet their teachers and hear about the curriculum for the upcoming year. They each chose a book from the book fair and then we went for ice cream.

Yesterday Ian and I went on a date to see Resident Evil and out for dinner. We're trying to make time for just the two of us, even if it's only a quick cup of tea at Tim Hortons.

Today we made a huge purchase. For me. And my stomach hurts thinking about it, but I'm just so excited about it. I bought an iPad. Ian's loaded it up for me and I'm looking forward to trying everything out. He loves his and is convinced I will love mine. It's white with a pink protective case. Just like my iPhone.

This week at work will be very busy as it's month end. The pressure last month was unreal so at least I'm a little more prepared as to what to expect this time around.

I finally went to see my doctor this week as I've been feeling so lousy lately. He sent me for a ton of blood work and I'm having an ultrasound on Thursday. I haven't heard anything from his office so I'm assuming I'm not at death's door like the Google said I was. I just feel so run down and stressed out. I often feel anxious and as though I'm about to throw up. It's super annoying.

I'm very late for Mama M's Five Question Friday but I don't care. I'm participating anyway.

Let's go!

1. What is one grammar issue you cannot let go without correction?

I don't correct people's grammar because I think that would be incredibly rude. I just flinch inwardly and let it go. An exception, of course, is my children. I try not to be critical but gently remind them of the current tense.

Certain things make my eye twitch. I have a friend that will say "he hanged up on me!" and it kills me. Another one says "the floor needs washed". I can't stand double negatives either. Ain't isn't a word, yet I hear it all the time.

Still, I don't correct the way someone speaks because it's rude.

2. What's your favorite thing about fall?

The cooler air, the colours of the leaves, pies and stews, warm sweaters, Thanksgiving, our fall family photos, Hallowe'en.

3. What's your favourite dish to take to a potluck?

I'll often offer to bring a dessert because I enjoy baking more than I enjoy cooking. If I'm super busy then I'll buy something but if I have the time I'll pour through my recipes to find something I think people will like.

4. When do you start Christmas shopping?

Any time after December 1st.

5. Did you move homes a lot growing up?

No. We lived in our first house until I was 14, then we moved to the city I'm in now. I lived there with my mother and sister until I married Ian at 25. We lived in an apartment for a year, then moved back into my mother's home for a year and half while our house was being built, and then lived in that house for 13 years. And as you know, we sold that house in June and have been living here since June 29th.

Ok, that's that. I need to go and do my nails and then play on my new iPad.

Anyone have any suggestions for "must have" apps?

Have a great week!

5QF ~ September 7

Hello Friday!

Tonight Ian, Sam and Julie will head up north for our church's Fall youth retreat. It's Julie's first one and she's so excited. I'll miss them all so much but my hands will be full in their absence with the two littles to keep me busy! I'm looking forward to lots of cuddles and playtime this weekend.

And early bedtimes... let's be honest here.

I don't know what's going on with my mouth these last couple of days but there's an excess of saliva going on and I'm worried my tongue is going to drown or something. So gross. I checked WebMD and it  turns out I'm dying.

Oh boy.

Well, I can't sit here chit chatting with you all day... I need to get to work. So let's get this Five Question Friday started!

1. What is your favorite fall family tradition?

Definitely our fall family photos. No one ever wants to do them but me and it usually ends up being a frustrating time for everyone. But it's all worth it to get that one great wall-worthy shot. I love seeing our family growing year after year.

2. If money weren't an issue, how many kids would you have?

For me it isn't so much the money aspect, it's my age and my ability to split myself up to give each child what he/she needs. I love having four children but I don't think I could handle more. I'm pretty stretched as it is.

3. If you were to get a tattoo, what would it be and where would you put it?

I've really been thinking about getting a tattoo for several months now. I'd love to have Choose Joy tattooed across the top of my right foot, along the edge. Or maybe a verse. It would need to be in a place that could be covered when I wanted it to be. I figure when I'm 90 years old I'll still be ok with a Choose Joy reminder on my foot ;-)

4. What condiment is a must in your house?

Oh my gosh KETCHUP.  Heaven forbid we run out of ketchup. Or as Jordan calls it, "kepitch".

5. How did your spouse/fiance propose?

That's a long and beautiful story, ending up with him on one knee just as I'd always dreamed.

Best question he ever asked ;-)

That's a wrap! Head on over to Mama M's blog My Little Life to join in on the fun and meet some other awesome bloggers!

5QF ~ August 17

I'm so excited it's Friday and I get to be home with the family for two whole days. I'm going to putter my heart out, and play with and love on my children. Next week will be a short one for me as I'm only working Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. Ian and Sam have tickets to a four day conference so they'll be going back and forth every day and I need to be here with the other three kids. I'm going to love every minute of it, and I'm going to pretend I'm a stay at home mom again. Oh how I miss that life.

Tonight Sam and Julie are at a movie all nighter at youth group. I don't think Julie will make it past midnight, and I'm guessing Sam will drop by 3am. Ian is there until midnight helping to supervise.

The littles and I had a quiet evening together. Matthew played in his playpen and Jordan curled up next to me and played with her DS while I read my book. I'm currently reading a memoir by Brenda Warner and it really has my interest. I must have been quite wrapped up in it because at one point I looked up to see that Mattie had fallen asleep in his playpen with his sweet arms wrapped around his stuffed puppy, and Jordan was sleeping next to me on the couch. I let them sleep like that for a short while and just enjoyed the calm quiet and togetherness. I've been craving some of that for awhile now and I really enjoyed it.

Matthew's new game is to drop something and say "uh oh" and look at me expectantly. I give him back what he wants and he repeats it. That game got old fast with kid #1 and here I am still playing it with #4!

I had two really good visits with my mom this week. I just love being with her. Sam often comes with me when I go over and loves to tell my mom funny stories and jokes to make her laugh. He says he loves going there because her house is like his second home. Last night he got talking about the special bond he feels he has with her and that just warms my heart. So much love in our family.

For the last couple of weeks I've been setting my alarm for 6:15am each morning so I can do all the things I need to do without rushing around. I'm loving the extra time to shower and dress, do my hair and pack my lunch. I even have time to sit quietly and do my daily devotions. I bought Jesus Calling about a month ago and I love it. Often I will be struck by a particular day's devotion because it will address something on my heart or that I'm struggling with. I find that setting aside quiet time with the Lord first thing really helps me feel more connected to Him as I go about my day.

Ok! It's time for Mama M's Five Question Friday blog hop!

1. What's the one thing you buy every time you walk into the store?
Milk! We can't keep milk in the house. There are six of us that drink it and we go through almost a bag every day.
I also love fresh strawberries. I cut them up and mix in some Splenda to take to work for dessert every day at lunch.
2. If you had a day all to yourself how would you spend it?
I'd sleep in until 8, then have my tea and breakfast on the back deck while doing my devotions. I'd putter around the house, enjoying the quiet. I'd read a bit, nap a bit, and putter some more.
3. Are you a speed limit driver? If not, over or under?
I always drive the speed limit on the highway which is 100 km. It makes me twitchy when people tell me I have to drive 110 or more "to keep up with the flow of traffic". Just because everyone else is speeding doesn't mean I have to. I've yet to get a speeding ticket and I'd like to keep it that way.
I have been known to speed on country roads when no one else is around. I'll speed a little if I think I'm going to be late, and I might drive slower if I'm headed somewhere I don't particularly want to go.
4. What's your favorite dessert to make, homemade or from a mix??
Cake balls are a family favourite and so easy to make. I haven't had any extra time to make them in the last four months since I've been back to work and let's just say, the natives are growing restless.
I love to make Skor Squares because they're so quick and simple to make and everyone loves them.
And I love to make cupcakes and decorate them with high frosting and just watch the children enjoy them.
 5. Would you rather have a spider or a mouse scurry across your face (no copping out and saying "neither!!")?
Oh my word that's just so gross. I'll say spider because maybe it would be a skinny spider and I wouldn't feel it running over me. A mouse would surely cause my sudden death from fright. And grossed-out-ness.
That's it for me! Head on over to Mama M's blog My Little Life to join in on the fun!

Late Again With My Five Question Friday

It's a slow, rainy afternoon here, a perfect day to curl up on the couch and blog. We're all doing our own things right now but will be heading shortly. Sam is meeting some of his friends at the mall, I am going to a memorial service, and Ian has a magic show.

This week was very busy for me. I went in to the office early a few mornings and stayed late a few afternoons. There is always so much work to do and never enough time to do it all. I try not to get too stressed by it all and remind myself I can only do what I can do and that tomorrow is another day, but I`m starting to feel it.

The company I was temping at while I was pregnant with Matthew called me this week. They wanted to know if I could go back to work for them on contract until the end of August. It's very flattering that they still think of me a year and a half later, when I only worked for them for six months in the first place. I said no. I am compensated exceptionally well where I am and I would be crazy to give that up.

Julie, Sam and I saw the new Diary of a Wimpy Kid movie on Thursday night. So cute. I loved being with them and we all enjoyed it. It was nice to hang out with my big kids and be able to focus solely on them.

Yesterday I woke up with such a happy heart. I am so grateful for where we are right now, and for the rest we`ve been able to enjoy. I never thought that after having everything stripped away one by one, that I would end up so peaceful.

This morning mom and I went to bingo. We didn`t win anything but I enjoyed being with her. I need to learn to talk less while at bingo. Well, frankly I could learn to talk less in all areas of my life but we don`t need to go there right now.

Once again I`m late with my answers for Five Question Friday but I`m doing it anyway.

1. Thunder storms- love them or hate them?

I love them. If I can, I like to sit on the porch to watch them. I love the smell of rain.

2. Do your kids get back to school clothes?

Yes. I used to buy them all new wardrobes for school but then I realized how crazytown that was and now they get a new outfit each for the first day. If there are things they need they always get them but I`ve toned it right down. Jordan will need some new things, and shoes for all, but that`s it.

3. Do you golf? Do you watch it?

I don`t golf. I tried it once, it was more than enough, and you`ll never catch me doing it again. Ever. I don`t get the allure of it at all. You hit the ball (hopefully in the right direction), walk walk walk to get it, then you hit it away from you again. Fer dumb. And it`s crazy expensive. In my opinion golf is a colossal waste of time and money.

I don`t watch it on tv either. To me that would be as exciting as watching paint dry.

I  love watching Ian (who is an amazing golfer) at the driving range, and could sit there watching him for hours.

Golf  carts are fun though.

4. Showers or baths?

Definitely showers. Baths are like sitting in a tub of dirty water. That you then wash yourself with. And just sitting there with nothing to do. I like the occasional bubble bath but that`s it.

5. What's the strangest meal you ever ate?

I make a point of not eating strange food. I did try calamari once and I`m still grossed out.

That`s it for me - enjoy your Saturday!

My Late Five Question Friday

It's a long weekend for us here in Canada and I'm happy to be home with my family for three whole days.

I can hardly believe we are into August now and the summer is half over. This time next month the kids will be getting ready to return to school. Sam will be going into the 8th grade, Julie into the 6th and Jordan will be starting Junior Kindergarten. Our school is one of the few Catholic schools left that are still offering half day classes. All the others have moved to full-day which I don't like.

We had Willow fixed this week. We held off doing so because we had been approached by an acquaintance about using Willow for stud service. We ended up not doing that, and so we had him fixed. Ian had found a lump on Willow's tail and so the vet removed it at the same time. Because the tail is a sensitive part, the vet couldn't close the wound after he cut off the cyst, so he had to leave it open and wrap it with dressings. He said the last time he closed that type of wound, he did it too tight and that dog ended up losing circulation in his tail and the tail had to be amputated. So, Willow spends his days working at the dressings until he gets them off, I see the open wound and practically barf and Ian wrestles him to re-dress it. Fun times.

In case you were wondering what all the cheers and squeals of excitement coming from our house this week were all about, I'll tell you. Jordan is fully daytime and night time potty trained!! She hasn't worn a pull-up in almost two weeks. YEEHAW!

Thursday evening I went out to see Step Up Revolution at the movies. SO GOOD. Then we stood in the parking lot and talked forever. It was midnight when I got home.

I'm hanging in at work but my workload is growing constantly. There is a lot of pressure to produce and it's really getting stressful. I don't enjoy being a working mother. I never was very good at it, and this time around isn't any different. I'm mentally exhausted by the time I get home and I don't feel as though I have much left to offer my family at that point. It's sad. I'm sad. I just wish I could be at home with the children, cooking and cleaning and doing laundry and playing with them in our awesome new backyard. I hate how wrung out I feel. But in the midst of all my emotions, I remain thankful for the provision of this job. I am paid very well for what I'm doing, and I have my manager's respect and support. Those things are huge and I'm grateful for them. And my co-workers laugh at my jokes, so that's awesome.

Today I unpacked all of my books and clothes, and set up my desk. I figured it was time, you know, since we've been here a month now. Sometimes it feels like home, sometimes it doesn't. Hopefully now that my things are put away I'll feel a little more rooted. I love everything about this house. I just need to feel more settled. This week I started missing our old house. Everything there was safe and comfortable. Familiar.

Matthew calls for me only when he's upset, and he calls me MaMaMa. So cute. He's currently drinking milk and eating a little piece of brownie and is happy as a clam.

Julie has been busting her butt around the house this past week and helping Ian with his errands. Sam is loving his new contacts and can now put them in on the first try.

I'm hoping to visit with my mother tomorrow. I haven't seen her since she was here on Tuesday and I'm missing her.

I'm late for Mama M's Five Question Friday but I still want to participate so here goes. If you click on the button below you will be taken to her awesome blog.

1. What is a must in a hotel room?

It has to be clean and not have any bugs.

I used to LOVE staying in hotels but then I watched an expose on Dateline and they told me all about the grodiness that goes on in hotels. Like the comforters only get washed once every six months. And they used infra-red lighting or whatever and you WOULD NOT BELIEVE what showed up on the carpets and walls. GRODY. And they showed a clip of the maid rinsing out the glasses... not washing them, just running them under water and putting them upside down to dry. So gross.

So now I pull the comforter and the blanket right off the bed so I don't get anyone else's DNA on me, only use the glasses if they are the pre-wrapped plastic ones and I wear my shoes until the final moment before I get into bed.

Thanks a lot for ruining hotel life for me, Dateline.

A dark room is always good too.

2. Which Olympic event would you be best at?

If worrying, napping or sarcasm were events, I would win gold in all three.

3. What's your stance on the Chick-fil-A subject?

Well you can add CFA to the list of awesome things we don't have here in Canada. I hear their food is awesome.

I am 100% in support of Dan Cathy's right to state his religious beliefs and I am beyond disgusted that he has been attacked for doing so. He is not a gay-hater.  He simply believes that marriage is between a man and a woman, which is a part of his faith. He does not fund gay hate groups. I researched a bit about him and he financially supports different family and marriage ministries that are in line with his beliefs. If he is a true Christian then he is called to love God and to love others. ALL others. An anyone who has a problem with anyone stating their beliefs towards homosexuality, then they need to take it up with God Himself - He's pretty clear about His stance on that. He's also exceptionally clear that He loves us deeply and longs for each of us to know Him. I'm sure He grieves watching this nonsense unfold - putting an issue like this over the hearts of others.

I read somewhere this past week that the mayor of Boston who wrote the letter that caused all this drama has backed down from his stance and admitted he was wrong to write the letter in the first place. And that Huckabee character appointing Aug 1st as CFA appreciation day? He wasn't any better.

That said, judging from the sheer number of people that went to CFA on Aug 1, Dan Cathy is far from alone in his beliefs.

We need to stop looking at from an "us vs them" mentality and just do what God asks of His children: love Him and love others.

4. One thing you said you'd never do as a parent, but totally have.

I was never going to say "because I said so" But sometimes that's the only answer I've got.

I also said I was never going to make my kids eat vegetables but I do.

And that using the tv as a babysitter thing...? Yep.

5. What's the weirdest thing you've ever found at a yard sale?

I don't like yard sales so I don't go to them. I am not interested in buying other people's junk. That said, we did score a sweet Little Tykes picnic table for the children at a yard sale we went to a couple of weeks ago that our friends had as a fundraiser. They are trying to get enough financial support to move to Bolivia for a year. I put aside my snobby ways to make sure I was there to support them. We bought some raffle tickets and I won a $150 gift card to Lowes! Good thing, we need to replace our screen door.

That's it for now. We're having a heck of a storm right now and I want to sit on the porch and smell it. I just love the smell of rain.

5QF ~ July 13

Happy Friday!

I'm looking forward to spending time with my sweet family this weekend. Tomorrow we're going to St. Jacobs to shop and sightsee. It's mennonite country and just so lovely. We haven't been there since Jordan was a baby and I've been longing to go back.

I'm pretty tired so I'm going to get to Mama M's Five Question Friday blog hop!

1. What's your view on men wearing sandals (yay or nay)?

I don't care if some dude wears sandals just as long as he isn't wearing socks at the same time. I truly don't understand the midset of men that wear socks and sandals together. Do they not have someone in their lives that are willing to tell them not to this?? Doesn't anyone love them enough to tell them the truth??

I don't have an issue with flip flops either as long as your toe nails aren't hanging over the edge.

*shudder*

2. What song do you love but are embarrassed to admit?

Starship by Nicki Minaj. I really can't stand her and her outlandishness, but I just love this song. She also has another one that I think is called Sound The Alarm and I love that one too... I sing along to both like I'm all that and a bag of chips, not some 40-something, mini-van driving, mother of four...

3. What summer camp should they make for moms?

Camp NapALot. Bedtime would be 9pm and we'd wake up at 10am with breakfast in bed. Naptime would be from 1-4. Inbetween we'd get pedicures and have our hair done and we'd laugh and laugh.

4. What is the most romantic song? (Not necessarily your favorite or your wedding song...)

This Woman's Work. Maxwell sings it and I think Kate Bush does as well.

5. Do you have an embarrassing pregnancy story?

Too many to mention! I've been pregnant a few times so I'm sure there's a lot of material there I just can't think of anything specific to tell you. My entire labour with Matthew was embarassing because all my mental issues reared up and I shared them freely with everyone.

Ok that's it! Have a great weekend!

5QF ~ June 8

What a week. I am STILL fighting this cold. Now, in addition to coughing like a 100 year old smoker, I sneeze constantly, my ears keep plugging up and I'm always blowing my nose. I have two kleenexes left in my box at the office and I forgot to buy another box at the store last night. I'm in a panic people.

Last night Ian and I took the little ones out shopping for Matthew's birthday gifts. I canNOT believe this precious child will be a whole year old on Saturday. What joy he has brought us in the midst of an extremely difficult year. God knew what we needed. Doesn't He always?

SO EXCITED!! We have our first showing sometime between 10-11 this morning and a photographer is coming to take photos of the inside of the house. We're all taking bets to see how long it will take to sell. I'm loving how clean and organized everything is!

It feels good to feel excited about something again. It's been awhile. We're all looking forward to a fresh start.

Enough chit chat!

It's time for Mama M's Five Question Friday blog hop!

1. Did you do anything special for your kids on the last day of school? Or did you parents do anything special for you?
One of my favourite memories of my childhood was the last day of school. My mother would always be watiting on the porch with a pitcher of ice cold kool-aid and enough glasses for all of my friends. We'd sit together, talking over one another and drinking until the pitcher was empty. Every year.

There have been several years when the children would walk to my mother's house on the last day, where she and I would be waiting with a pitcher of juice and a plate of freshly baked chocolate chip cookies. I love that they love that, and that we're making special memories.

2. What's your favorite summer tradition with your children?
We don't really have one because every summer is different. We'll go to the beach a couple of times but as they get older they have their own things they want to do.

I love camping and would really love to take the children to Algonquin Park for a weekend. Jordan has never camped before but I'm sure she'll love it too. And Mattie... well, he's a wild card!

3. What was your favorite thing to do during the summer as a kid? Um... not having to go to school.

4. How old were you when you were married? Were you a Bridezilla?
I was 25 when I got married and I think I was too young. I didn't have a CLUE what life was all about. But I knew I loved my Ian and he was the one for me.

Bridezilla? No! I wish I had been though. Just a little bit. I feel as though there were things I agreed to that, looking back, I should have spoken up about or pushed back on. But I was worried about being rude or hurting people's feelings. When I see young brides today... man... they seem to have so much confidence and they know what they want.

Our day was beautiful. No question about that.

5. What is your favorite girl name?
These days I'm loving the name Amy. It means "loved one". If I were to have another daughter I'd want to name her Amy Elizabeth Joy.

I also like Avery, Kendall and Kennedy.

That's it! Enjoy your Friday!

5QF ~ June 1

Oh Friday... how I've been longing for your arrival. Welcome, welcome.

The first of June... where is this year going?? Our sweet Mattie will be 1 year old on the 9th.

I've had a very sore and scratchy throat this week and a cough that makes me sound like a 100 year old smoker. My sides and back ache from all the coughing.

I'm wrapping up week 6 of my temp assignment. The workload is heavy and there is a lot of pressure to produce, but I think I'm holding my own. I sure do love when payday rolls around let me tell you. Makes it all worthwhile.

Yesterday Matthew wouldn't do any of his little "tricks" for me, just for Ian. I wanted to cry. But tonight? He went NUTS when he saw that I was home.

Jordan was wearing a lovely party dress all afternoon. She told me she wanted to be a doctor when she grew up. I told her that was a very noble profession. Then she said "just joking...I'm going to work at McDonalds."

SO jealous of my American friends - their kids are wrapping up their school year this week and we still have a whole month to go.

BOO.

Have you entered my giveaway to win a personalized snack cup for your little one? Check it out here! I forgot to mention this but not only do you get to pick the fabric and the font to be personalized, but you also have a choice of pink, blue, green or white lids. This giveaway ends tonight, so make sure you enter!

OK!

It's time for Mama M's Five Question Friday blog hop!

1. What were you scared of as a kid?

What WASN'T I afraid of as a kid? Fear has been such a part of my life as far back as I can remember.

I was often the target of bullies at school, and I lived with a daily fear that they would get me after school.

When my dad left us, I was afraid that I would lose my mom too, and then I'd be alone.

I feared failure like you wouldn't believe. I had to be the best or I wouldn't even try.

 2. Do you sleep well in a hotel?

Yes. I love everything about hotels, and I always sleep to sleep very heavily in hotel rooms.

 3. If you could meet any celebrity, dead or alive, who and why?

I can't think of anyone, really. I used to want to meet Clay Aiken but that's over now.

4. It's a hot summer day. Do you prefer to be pool side or at the beach?

Beach! I love digging my toes in the sand, listening to the waves hit the shore, seagulls making their seagully noises (I'm sure there's a proper name for that but I'm at a loss right now).

When you go to the pool what do you hear? Other people's kids crying/acting up, you're smack dab next to some stranger, and it's crowded and noisy. At the beach you can spread out and not be all up in some stranger's pocket.

5. What is your favorite summer dish?

Potato salad.

Specifically, my MOTHER'S potato salad. Best in the whole world.

I sure do hope my Mama is reading this right now... about my love her her potato salad...just sayin. Mom. Just sayin.

That's a wrap for today, peeps! Happy Friday!

5QF ~ May 25

Friday! Friday! Friday!

YIPPEE!!

I woke up this morning thinking it was Tuesday then realized it was Friday and I almost cried in happiness!

Considering this was only a four day work week, this week went by very slowly. Work continues to get busier and busier. I'm seeing the results of my work though, so that's a very positive thing.

Just when I think Ian and I couldn't have any more bad luck... we get more bad luck. We got another hit this week and it knocked us off our feet. We have no choice but to get back up again, but I'll be honest with you... it's getting harder and harder each time.

I am bottom-of-my-soul grateful for my sisters in Christ that continue to pray on our behalf, especially in the last couple of days when I just couldn't.

Sigh.

So I mentioned five weeks ago how our van died and it was towed home. It's been sitting in our driveway all this time. Remember I mentioned our dear friends who loaned us their van? Well we're buying it from them! It has working air conditioning which we've been so excited to have. We've been without it in our van for a few years now, which was bad enough on its own, but the passenger window wouldn't open anymore so it was like an OVEN in there. Not only does the air conditioning work extremely well (I have it blowing on me all the way to work and home again thank you very much) but ALL the windows open. It's wonderful. Oh, and the trunk? Big enough to put three bodies in there! ..

Not that I would actually put a body in there, just sayin.

There's no way we could afford all the repairs needed for our van, nor could we afford to have it certified, so Ian started calling wreckers this week to see how much they'd pay for it. Yesterday he got a very high offer and the guy came today to pick it up.

When I was leaving this morning, Ian teased me and said I should go say goodbye to the van. I surprised myself by tearing up and saying "No way. I feel like we're letting go of everything we have and I don't feel like doing it anymore."

"Letting go of the old, so we can accept God's new." He said.

Truth.

And here I sit, feeling teary about our van. Lame. Truth is, tears are always right beneath the surface and fall at the slightest thing.

Can I tell you something? I'm really afraid for our future. I know that as a Christian I'm not to be afraid, but oh... I am. I don't know how much longer I can endure this season before I completely break. I'm tired and afraid.

Don't tell anyone I said that. I tend to put a smile on my face for others and say positive things.

I'm sitting here eating free onion rings and wondering if I should take my littles outside.

As I decide, let's do Mama M's Five Question Friday blog hop!

1. Are you a napper?

Oh yes. If there was an award for napping I would win. I could nap anywhere, anytime.

Frankly I'd sell one of my kids just to have one right this minute.

2. What was your favorite subject in school? Most hated?

Favourite subjects were English, History and Law.

I HATED Math. Oh man did I hate math. And I was really bad at it too. Which makes my career in accounting really hard to understand.

3. Did you have the something old new borrowed and blue at your wedding? What were they?

New: dress & life
Old: don't remember
Borrowed: my mother's gold bracelet
Blue: My blue rat I made in the third grade that is as close to a good luck charm as you can get

4. What one thing are you determined to do this summer?

MOVE!

5. Ice cream or Popsicles?

Ice cream. Popsicles are messy and they melt and get on your hands and make them sticky. So gross. And they make your teeth and tongue funny colours.

Hope you all have a great weekend!

5QF ~ May 12

Oh Friday...how I love thee! You've arrived just in time.

I've been successfully staying away from twitter and facebook this week. While I feel incredibly out of touch with everyone, I've been enjoying spending my time in more edifying ways. It's amazing how many mindless statements I have spared the twittersphere from this week.

Sam and I went to see The Hunger Games on Monday night and we liked it. Usually I prefer the book or the movie, never both. But I found that the book did a really, really, good job at describing everything that happened, that when I saw the movie I almost felt as though I had seen it already. At one point the beast-dog things showed up and even though I'd read about them, I wasn't expecting them at that moment, and I screamed. Sam said it wasn't scary, but my scream scared the crap out of him. I loved hanging out with him so much.

Wednesday night we all headed out to the mall together after I got home from work. Jordan loves the pet store so we took her there. She loves all things creepy, like snakes and lizards and birds. While we were there I bumped into a woman I went to high school with. Crazy. I bought Matt his very first superhero shirt - Spiderman. Ian has every single superhero shirt ever made, and Sam has quite the collection as well, and now Matt has one.

Last night was Julie's school play and she did wonderfully. I was teary watching her. She makes me proud.

I'm reading two really great books that have me thinking about a lot of things. I'll be reviewing them on my blog next week.

It's time for Mama M's Five Question Friday blog hop! Yippee!

1. What advice would you give a couple getting married?

Love one another. Put each other first and get each other's back. Be generous with encouragement and forgiveness. Listen to what your spouse says, but more importantly, listen to what they don't say. Laugh together. Be your spouse's safe place to fall. Accept them for who they are, not who you want them to be.

2. If you could tell your 16 year old self ONE thing, what would it be?

I have a lot of things I wish I could tell my 16 year old self. A lot of things.

The biggest thing....Go all in with life. To let myself really LIVE.

Love deeply. Belly laugh. Let go of the fear of not being good enough. Try new things. Stop trying to be the best. Be authentic. Fail sometimes and be ok with it. Trust others, and let them in. Allow myself to be happy.

3. What do you do to keep cool in the summer? (AC, windows, fans, swimming, etc.)

Air conditioning. And lots of it.

4. What did you (or your wife) crave most while pregnant?

I didn't really have a particular craving with Sam. With Julie it was spaghetti. I ate it for breakfast, lunch and dinner, every single day for three months. My coworkers started bringing in their homemade spaghetti for me! With Jordan it was grilled cheese sandwiches. And with Matthew it was maccaroni and cheese. All.the.time. YUM.

5. Who is your favorite TV mom? Why?

Ma Ingalls on Little House On The Prairie. She was the epitome of love, grace and patience.
I also like the mother on Good Luck Charlie - my kids tell me I'm a lot like her. Ha!
